First ever community radio station in Jordan

UNESCO and UNIFEM just launched a joint programme to establish an e-village in Lib and Mleih. UNIFEM is leading the e-village project while UNESCO is providing the first ever community radio station in Jordan to the e-village.
On Monday this week, Anjum Haque, Director of the UNESCO office in Amman, signed a memorandum of understanding with Socorro Reyes, Chief of UNIFEM's Asia Pacific and Arab States section, in the presence of Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Director of the UNIFEM regional office in Jordan.
The memorandum of understanding allows joint collaboration between the agencies to complement each other. UNIFEM has an established E-Village concept, through which the organization is developing the communities of Lib and Mleih, two villages in the governorate of Madaba.
This concept was further enriched by UNESCO through the establishment of the first community radio station. The radio station is intended to raise the awareness of the community to issues related to the development of the community including education, health, freedom of expression, democracy.
The community will be involved in operating and selecting their own programs, through a survey. While the community selects their programs with the guidance of UNESCO, UNIFEM, and Amman Net, Amman Net becomes a major and key role partner in this initiative.
UNESCO will continue seeking partnerships with other UN agencies in the implementation of its programmes.
