UNESCO in cooperation with the Lebanese Association for the rights of the Handicapped, concluded the second workshop on website building and development for NGO personnel that work with people with special needs, in Tripoli (Lebanon) last Saturday.
The 4-day workshop, organized within the framework of the Information for All Programme at UNESCO Beirut Office aimed at helping in capacity building of organizations dealing with persons with special needs, in order to try to improve their quality of life. The workshop served the Northern region of Lebanon and was following a similar workshop that took place last November in Chtoura covering the Bikaa region of Lebanon.

It is estimated that over 10% of the world’s population suffers from a variety of disabilities. However, information and communication technologies (ICTs) have the potential for making significant improvements in the lives of these persons.

ICTs offer individuals the ability to compensate for physical or functional limitations, thus allowing them to enhance their social and economic integration in communities by enlarging the scope of activities available to them.

UNESCO works with its partners to promote the use of ICT for access to information and knowledge for all persons, including those with disabilities.
