    An exhibition entitled "Planet Earth: From Space to Place", organized by the Science Sector, will be inaugurated today by Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden and Goodwill Ambassador, Claudia Cardinale . This exhibition will be on show at UNESCO Headquarters throughout the General Conference and features the work of the Organization relating to sustainable development and climate change.

    On 29-30 September, at the occasion of national eDay, Kiwis (a nickname for New Zealand's people) cleared their homes of nearly 300 tonnes of old computer equipment and mobile phones, diverting them from being dumped in landfills.

    Following the initiative of the Central African Government and of national media associations, the First General Assessment of Central African Republic Media took place in Bangui, capital of Central African Republic, between 22 August and 1 September 2007. The goal of this event was to discuss how to create an environment conducive to freedom of expression.

    IPDC supports training for a Rwandan media regulatory body
    Members and staff of the Rwandan High Council of the Press (HCP) increased their understanding of the role of a professional, independent and transparent media regulatory body during an in-house training in Kigali. Part of a wider project of UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), this training was funded by the United States of America.

    The Belgium-based Claroline Project - The Claroline Consortium and Curriki: The Global Education and Learning Community, based in the U.S.A., have been named as the laureates of this year’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICT in Education. They were selected by the Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, on the recommendation of an international jury.

    UNESCO supports development of emergency knowledgebase in Philippines
    A Training Workshop on Content Development for a Disaster and Health Emergency Knowledgebase was recently conducted in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. The workshop that trained health emergency managers in knowledgebase content development was one of the activities funded by the US$50,000 UNESCO Emergency Assistance Programme. In March 2007, a Community e-Disaster Center was also set up under the same grant.

    A Pan-African Training of Trainers course on Communication for Development was concluded today. Eleven men and women, teachers of journalism and producers from eight African states (Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia) have come together to hone their writing and reporting skills in an intensive training course on Communication for Development at the Golda Meir Mount Carmel International Training Center (MCTC), in Haifa, Israel, in cooperation with UNESCO.
