Media in Conflict and Post-Conflict Situations

For several years now, UNESCO has been supporting independent media in conflict and post-conflict situations

Zakia Zaki
First part of "If I Stand Up", a documentary on the political life of Afghan women, produced in 2005 by a group of Afghan camera-women with the support of UNESCO.

Zakia Zaki had been the founder of one of the first community radio stations run entirely by women in Afghanistan, radio Sada–e–Sulh (Peace) in Jabul Seraj. She was killed during the night of 5-6 June 2007. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) suggests that she may have been killed "for the simple reason that she was a prominent media figure in a milieu that remains hostile to working women."
