UNESCO hosts discussions on freedom of expression and journalism ethics

An International Symposium on Freedom of Expression is bringing together today an impressive group of international experts and an audience of key stakeholders to examine issues central to UNESCO´s mandate to promote “the free flow of ideas by word and image".
Organized by UNESCO´s Communication and Information Sector with the support of the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO, the event will focus on the status of press freedom around the world, freedom of expression on the Internet and the safety of journalists.
Also with a line-up of distinguished panellists and participants, who will surely stimulate a rich debate, another event will be hosted by the Communication and Information Sector on 27 January. Under the theme, Journalism Ethics and Self-Regulation in Europe: New Media, Old Dilemmas, this meeting will explore the current situation in terms of journalistic professional standards and media self-regulation in the region, as well as the opportunities and obstacles posed by the digital revolution, among other critical aspects.
