The Durban University of Technology (DUT), a proudly South African University of Technolgy (UoT), was created through the successful merger of KwaZulu-Natal´s renowned higher education legacy institutions, viz., ML Sultan Technikon and Technikon Natal on 1 April 2002. This prestigious UoT is the first of its kind in South Africa. It provides students with a dynamic, multi-cultural learning environment and an innovative tertiary institution at the forefront of higher education, technological training and research. DUT is a multi-campus tertiary institution which offers 47 academic programmes (full-time and part-time) in six faculties, on campuses in Durban and the Midlands. Financial assistance is offered to deserving students to assist in the financing of their studies. The DUT´s Mission is to serve the needs of developing societies within a dynamic global context and the enable quality teaching, learning, research and community engagement by providing quality, career-focused education; Promoting: A values-driven ethos; Sustainable partnerships with industry, community and society; Excellence in applied and relevant research and; Empowering staff and students to succeed and ensuring institutional sustainability. DUT will be guided by the following values when planning, setting priorities, and making decisions regarding the DUT community´s pursuits of the three fold mission of higher education, i.e., teaching and learning, research and community engagement.
