UNESCO forges capacity building of knowledge professionals in newly emerging ICT technologies

Within the framework of UNESCO’s activities in capacity building of knowledge professionals, a UNESCO-Korea Polytechnic University (KPU) Forum on International Cooperation for Capacity Building in New Digital Technologies took place on 25 and 27 February 2008 in Kiev National Taras Shevchenko University, Ukraine, and Gomel State Technical University, Belarus.
Over 70 ICT players from Eurasia and Republic of Korea participated in the Forum, which was held under KPU funding.
In the opening ceremony of the Forum in Kiev, Oleg Tretiak, First Vice-Rector of Kiev National Taras Shevchenko University, expressed his sincere thanks to KPU and UNESCO for their support to the event and underscored the importance of university roles in capacity building of knowledge professionals and economic development.
At the Forum, a presentation on Development of Successful Project Proposals for European Funding and Sustainable Synergy was made by UNESCO’s ACCESS-net (Association of Computer Centers for Exploiting Sustainable Synergy-network).
KPU presented, among others, Advanced Digital-Mapping (ADM) Technology and Digital Multimedia Broadcasting Technology. It is one of the outcomes of innovative R&D; projects co-implemented by key KPU family companies, which have produced tangible results in developing unprecedented industry and university cooperation in Asia.
With regard to a project proposal for introducing an innovative navigation system into a target host country based on the ADM technology, it is expected that 80 % of the project budget be funded by the government of the Republic of Korea while seeking 20 % from counterpart institutions.
In a closing ceremony of the Forum in Gomel, Andrei Bioko, Vice-Rector for Research of the Gomel State Technical University, underlined the University’s willingness to cooperate with KPU. According to him, such cooperation would offer his university a great opportunity to reinforce capacity building of its professionals in ICT.
