Over the years the Government of Botswana has been able to offer vocational education and training with the intention to develop an educated and informed nation. As the demand for skills from the growing industry increased, more training institutions were set up to meet this demand. Regrettably the quality of some of the skills produced did not meet the needs of industry. It therefore became imperative that a regulatory body be established to coordinate and monitor the training provided by vocational training institutions. The Botswana Training Authority (BOTA) was then established in 2000 under the Ministry of Labour and Home affairs as per the Vocational Training Act No. 22 of 1998 to ensure that quality skills were supplied to industry.
In November 2013 BOTA was replaced by the newly established Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) on the basis of the BQA Act.
Objectives
BOTA will be a world class coordinating body for the development of quality vocational skills.
Regular Tasks
The main activities of the BOTA are to:
- promote access to training opportunities on an equitable basis;
