UNESCO in the Internet Governance Forum
UNESCO acknowledges the importance of multistakeholder approaches and contributes to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) by stressing that Internet governance should respect human rights and build upon the principles of openness, including freedom of expression, diversity, and interoperability.
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) resulted in the creation of the multistakeholder Internet Governance Forum – an annual forum in which international agencies, governments, Internet professionals, business and civil society organizations can explore, on equal footing, the development on the Internet and its interaction with other area of public policy. All the information regarding the mandate of the IGF, the IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group members, and the meetings are available on the IGF website.

UNESCO will participate in the fifth IGF

The fifth meeting of the IGF is scheduled to be held in Vilunius from 10 to 14 September 2010. UNESCO will organize two workshops, an open forum as well as an exhibition, and promotes its constructive, inclusive, open and development oriented vision throughout the event.
