IFAP Council has more time to revise new strategic plan

Delegates to the 179th session of UNESCO's Executive Board, which ends today at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, postponed the decision on the item concerning the Strategic Plan of the Information for All Programme (IFAP) to its next session.
The request to prepare a new results-based Strategic Plan for IFAP was formulated by the Executive Board at its 177th session in September 2007. The planning process started the same year at 13th meeting of the IFAP Bureau. After an online discussion and the circulation of the draft document to all IFAP stakeholders, the Plan was finalised and presented to the 5th session of the IFAP Council (2-4 April 2008).
The 5th session of the IFAP Council endorsed the content of the Strategic Plan, covering the period 2008-2013, which aims to "help Member States develop and implement national information policies in a world increasingly using information and communication technologies." However it challenged the modalities of its operation and requested the Executive Board for a further time to revise the entire Plan.
The Executive Board decided, on Tuesday 15 April, to postpone the consideration of the item to its 180th session in September 2008 and requested the Director-General to submit a revised plan for approval.
