On 8 February 2008, the Liberia Media Center (LMC) launched an internship job-placement handbook for mass communication students with support from UNESCO and International Media Support (IMS).
The handbook, Mass Communication Internship Job Placement Manual, is an outcome of a Vocational Training and Job Placement project funded by UNESCO in 2006.

According to the LMC, the handbook presents an opportunity to further strengthen media professionalism in Liberia. It presents practical steps for young journalists to take when seeking internships or that first job.

Professor Joe W. Mulbah, Chairman of the Mass Communication Department of the University of Liberia, thanked the LMC for its fine work on the project and encouraged its Executive Director, Lawrence Randall, to continue to foster those initiatives that will improve the media sector in Liberia.

The handbook was drafted by the Liberia Media Center with the support of local consultant, Samuel Kpanbayeazee Duworko. Copies of the publication will be distributed to the leading universities offering courses in Mass Communication.

The handbook is part of a larger project to assist partner universities in improving their internship placement programmes, while at the same time enhancing interns’ knowledge of broad journalistic work practices. Interns were also taught basic computer and digital applications before they were deployed to their assigned institutions.

The programme targeted thirty interns from the African Methodist Episcopal University, the United Methodist University and the University of Liberia.

The handbook in PDF format can be downloaded here.
