More than 60 universities representing 13 countries in the Mediterranean region met last week in Toulon in France to found the international association e-Omed and agreed to enhance cooperation and exchanges in a view to promote the development, sharing and use of open educational resources.
The Open Digital Space for the Mediterranean (Espace Numérique Ouvert pour la Méditerranée, e-Omed) is a project initiated in March 2009 by the Moroccan Virtual Campus (MVC) and the Foundation Université Numérique Ingénierie et Technologie (UNIT) in France which aims to extend the practices of digital universities to the Mediterranean region.
The e-Omed project supported by UNESCO is a follow-up to the Avicenna Virtual Campus initiative implemented by the European Commission and UNESCO in the Mediterranean region from 2002 to 2006. It provides a comprehensive framework for democratizing access to educational resources and improving the quality of higher education by facilitating co-production, exchanges and localization of educational content and pedagogical practices in the Mediterranean region.
UNESCO invites all universities in the Mediterranean region to participate in the initiative. For more information please contact: association@eomed.org
