    UNESCO and HP sign strategic partnership agreement
    UNESCO and Hewlett-Packard (HP) will sign a strategic partnership agreement on 19 December to strengthen their collaboration around existing education projects. The signing ceremony will be held at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris and attended by Koïchiro Matsuura, UNESCO Director-General and Gabriele Zedlmayer, vice president, Global Citizenship HP Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

    "Telecentre on Wheels" is the name of a six-month experimental project for remote villages in West Bengal, India. It was recently launched by the Change Initiatives, a rural Indian NGO, with support from UNESCO and the West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA).

    UNESCO prepares Media Companion to HIV and AIDS
    On 19-24 November 2007, UNESCO brought together selected media trainers from Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Maldives and Sri Lanka for a five-day intensive sub-regional workshop to review and evaluate the production entitled “Media Companion to HIV and AIDS”, a template for multimedia training on HIV and AIDS reporting for media professionals.

    The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura has condemned the air strike on the Voice of Tigers radio station that killed five of the station’s staff. A total of more than ten people are reported to have been killed in the attack.

    UNESCO provides safety training to Palestinian media professionals
    UNESCO Office in Ramallah and Maan News Network organized a seven-day intensive safety training course for 33 Palestinian journalists, cameramen and photographers in the West Bank. The trainees acquired skills in personal conflict management and safety, risk assessment, surviving in a hostile environment, as well as medical skills.

    Radio scriptwriting competition to cope with climate change
    The Developing Countries Farm Radio Network (DCFRN) and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) are launching a scriptwriting competition entitled African Farmers’ Strategies for Coping with Climate Change. The competition is open to African radio organizations, including broadcasters, production organizations, NGOs with a radio project, farmers’ associations with a radio show, etc.

    Last October, UNESCO and Microsoft brought together teachers from across Asia to discuss issues relating to bringing ICT into teacher education. The regional workshop, entitled “ICT-integration for the Next Generation of Teachers,” explored ways to train teacher educators to act as coaches for their colleagues, including through participation in the Microsoft-sponsored Peer Coaching programme.
