Miniature painting is an essential part of artistic expression in Uzbekistan, where the miniatures are admired for their rich creative imagination and perfect execution. For this heritage to be easier accessible, a UNESCO sponsored CD-ROM entitled "Miniatures: The Electronic Heritage of Uzbekistan (XX Century)" has now been published.

The Uzbek miniature is one of the most interesting genres in the century-old history of oriental art. Mostly used for book illustrations, it has been developing under the influence of classical oriental poetry.

The CD-ROM, which can be obtained at the UNESCO Almaty Office, was prepared by the "Oltin Meros" Foundation with technical support of the UNESCO Almaty Office within the framework of UNESCO's "HeritageNet" project, the Scientific Centre "Musavvir", the Media Resource Centre in Tashkent, the UNESCO Centre for Development of Informatics Training at the Tashkent University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) and the Uzbek National Commission for UNESCO.
