    The educational television (ETV) service in Afghanistan is now being upgraded under a major UNESCO implemented project. The two year programme, funded by the Government of Italy, includes the rehabilitation of the partially destroyed former headquarters of the ETV service in Kabul, purchase of equipment and training.

    Reconstructing the Slave Route in the Colonial Era
    Reconstructing one of the darkest pages of Argentina’s history, the one of the African slave trade of the Rio de La Plata, this is the aim of the contribution of the National General Archives (Archivo General de la Nacion) of Argentina to the Slave Trade Archives project, being carried out in the context of the Memory of the World programme of UNESCO. More than 500 documents have hence been digitised by the institution with UNESCO’s financial support.

    Haiti’s most popular radio commentator, Jean Leopold Dominique, was shot dead on April 3, 2000, as he arrived to work at his radio station. His killers remain free. Similarly, the murderers of Georgiy Gongadze, the editor in chief of the Ukrainian news website, pravda.com.ua, who was found decapitated on November 2, 2000, are still at large. Impunity is enjoyed by the slayers of many journalists around the world.
