The Convention, adopted by the 33rd General Conference of UNESCO in October 2005, entered into force on 18 March 2007. The Convention strives to create an enabling environment in which the diversity of cultural expressions may be affirmed and renewed for the benefit of all societies. It seeks to strengthen the five inseparable links of the same chain: creation, production, distribution/dissemination, access and enjoyment of cultural expressions, as conveyed by cultural activities, goods and services. More about the Convention... Considered to be the first standard setting instrument that puts culture and development at its core, the Convention under Article 18 has established the International Fund for Cultural Diversity, a multi-donor Fund to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction in developing countries through support for projects and activities that aim to foster the emergence of a dynamic cultural sector.
