The Development of the Shophouse in the Urban Morphology of Asian Cities 

The three-day international conference will be devoted to the evolution and rehabilitation of the Asian shophouse. 
It will explore the following themes:
  • The origin of the shophouse and its influence on and from other cultures;
  • Social, economic, political and administrative factors affecting the development and conservation of shophouses in Asia;
  • Case studies on the conservation of shophouses in the context of urban renewal or urban redevelopment.

The conference, which will be attended by 24 speakers/moderators and 70 participants, is organized by Hong Kong’s Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO), the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) China and the UNESCO-ICCROM Asian Academy for Heritage Management (AAHM) with the support of the Lord Wilson Heritage Trust.
