Sudplanete.net: a useful tool!

The Global Alliance invites its members to visit Sudplanete.net, an innovative communications and information tool for cultural operators in the South.

Developed by Africultures, a Global Alliance member, this cultural diversity portal covers 80 countries to date.  Available in English, French and Portuguese, it will soon be translated into Spanish and Arabic so that it can become an international reference database on creators and cultural creations of the South.

As a gateway to the second and more interactive generation of the Internet, Sudplanete.net is designed to mobilize all actors in the culture sector in order to provide a panoramic view of cultures in the South and create an effective search engine in this domain.

Sudplanete.net offers three types of content:

  • An interactive database of cultural creations in the South listing more than 10,000 artists and 12,000 events

Any creator, cultural institution or organization can create and update a profile on Sudplanete.net in real time and free of charge.  Based on this information, they can also develop their own websites using a simple kit system.

The features offered, which will be gradually expanded, are designed to meet their specific communication needs, including downloadable press kits and visuals as well as video, sound and image files.  Cultural operators in the South can therefore make use of an online communication guide that increases their visibility and promotes their activities, goods and services.

  • A calendar of festivals, exhibitions and major cultural events including more than 600 international festivals in the South to date

A vast database displaying major cultural events by country is available for artists, programmers and tour managers.  It allows users to access information on future and past programmes as well as to contact the event organizers.

  • An original editorial presentation with nearly 150 articles by authors from the South or writing about countries from the South

Now you can see the various ways to benefit from Sudplanete.net.  It would be a shame not to take advantage of it!  Artists, cultural entrepreneurs and associations are invited to use this preferred tool of communication and dissemination.

Institutions and cultural centres that have research, databases and directories related to art in countries of the South are, in turn, encouraged to form partnerships with Sudplanete.net to ensure wider circulation of their work on the portal.
