In line with the transversal priority of UNESCO’s Medium Term Strategy for 2008-2013, the Global Alliance gives priority to strengthening African cultural industries by supporting the creation of innovative partnerships between the private sector, public sector and civil society.

The following projects illustrate the Global Alliance’s activities in the flourishing African cultural expressions in the music industry:

• Facilitating access of African music to regional and international markets: a partnership involving both civil society and professional organizations from four West African countries and international cooperation in order to: 1) strengthen the African Music Export Office (BEMA), 2) build capacities, 3) encourage the emergence of viable local markets and, 4) facilitate access to international markets. • Nzassa, House of Music and Dance: a partnership project led by the NGO Culture et Développement that involves international cooperation, local policy makers, civil society and private operators in order to build a regional centre for economic and cultural activities in Treichville (Côte d'Ivoire). Nzassa supports the creation, production and dissemination of local cultural expressions in addition to the training of artists and cultural entrepreneurs. See fact sheet.
