“Plurality of languages and places of philosophy” debate to celebrate World Philosophy Day 2015 at UNESCO

On 19 November, UNESCO will celebrate World Philosophy Day, whose purpose is to raise awareness of the crucial contribution of philosophy to critical and independent thought and its role in promoting tolerance and peace.
World Philosophy Day 2015 will explore the new territories of philosophy through a series of roundtable discussions at UNESCO Headquarters (Room VIII) which, for the first time, will be broadcast live on the Internet.
From 2.00 to 5.00 pm (CET), roundtable discussions will bring together philosophers from various countries and backgrounds, including Anne Fagot-Largeault (Honorary Professor at the Collège de France, member of the French Academy of Sciences), Rainier Ibana (Chair of the philosophy department of the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines), Mériam Korichi (Philosopher, playwright and director), and Didier Deleule (Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense University).
The Day’s programme will focus on three subjects: knowledge and dissemination of philosophical thought of non-Western cultures; philosophy beyond its traditional confines; teaching and learning philosophy in diverse venues and formats. The event is organized in the framework of UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations Programme (MOST).
Other events will be held to mark World Philosophy Day internationally.
