The Gaze of the Other: Documentary heritage of the Salesian apostolic vicariate in the Ecuadorian Amazon 1890-1930

Salesian Mission in the Ecuadorian Amazon at the beginning of the 20th Century.

Between the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, religious missions of Dominicans, Salesians, Carmelites and Josephites were mobilized to the Ecuadorian Amazon in a "peacekeeping and evangelizing" effort of the quichua groups, napo-quichua, canelo-quichua, shuar, achuar and cofán. The Gaze of Other is a collection of 42 original photographic negatives corresponding to the Salesian missions between 1890 and 1930.
