Yemen

Three ancient Yemeni cities are inscribed on the World Heritage List.

The city of Zabid, which is in a very poor state of conservation, is inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger. The country has received support from UNESCO in the form of technical and emergency assistance and training of heritage experts.

In the field of the intangible heritage, Yemen’s Song of Sana'a was proclaimed as Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. A plan of action to safeguard these consists of recordings, training of young artists and action to foster public awareness.

Yemen is participating in the Kitab Fi Jarida project to promote Arabic literature.
