The cultural landscape of the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2004. Two years later, the World Heritage Committee decided to extent the site by adding a buffer zone.

The Principality intends to increase its extrabudgetary contribution to UNESCO’s programmes involving cultural tourism in the mountainous regions of developing countries.

Andorra has demonstrated its willingness to strengthen cooperation with UNESCO in the field of culture by ratifying the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expression in February 2007.
