Three cultural sites in Cyprus have been inscribed on the World Heritage List. With the assistance of the World Heritage Centre, the country devotes considerable attention, to the project of renovating the Paphos lighthouse. The tourist amenities provided at this site should under no circumstances interfere with future archaeological excavations.

Cyprus received financial assistance from the World Heritage Fund for technical work and training in the field of heritage.

With the support of UNESCO and the United Nations peacekeeping force, Cyprus is restoring Islamic and Orthodox pilgrimage sites in view of promoting reconciliation and intercultural dialogue.

The country has received training in the identification, safeguarding and promotion of immaterial heritage in the framework of activities for countries of South-East Europe developed by UNESCO's Venice Office.

Cyprus has demonstrated its willingness to strengthen cooperation with UNESCO in the field of culture by ratifying the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expression in December 2006.
