The old city of Riga and the two Struve Geodesic Arc stations in Latvia are inscribed on the World Heritage List.

Latvia is cooperating with UNESCO in drawing up a plan for the protection and development of the country’s historic centre.

The country also possesses two intercountry masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity and is concerned to make young people aware of the importance of handing on the intangible heritage.

Latvia is lending assistance to Iraq respecting rehabilitation of its cultural heritage through programmes of documentation and training.

Regional cooperation has brought the three Baltic States together to carry out a study of cultural tourism, particularly in relation to the intangible heritage.

The country is examining with UNESCO the creation of a national library and planning the various operations, including political and public awareness-raising, cooperation, training and cataloguing.

Latvia participates in the “Dialogue Among Civilizations : The Caucasus” project, being an exchange between the Baltic States and the South Caucasus countries.
