The Republic of Moldova has a station of the Struve Geodetic Arc on its territory - being a transborder world heritage site - and is concerned to identify other potential sites.

As part of a very extensive programme of digitization of the cultural heritage of the countries of south-eastern Europe, the Republic of Moldova is collaborating with the other states as well as with the UNESCO Office in Venice.

The country has joined forces with those of the region to promote cultural diversity and dialogue for development.

Several museums have been opened in recent years, the emphasis being on developing collections in the spirit of the Hermitage Museum (Saint Petersburg)/UNESCO project and with the participation of experts from the museums of the region.

The potential contribution of cultural tourism to the preservation of sites and to sustainable development is the subject of reflection with UNDP and the UNESCO Office in Moscow at the present time.
