UNESCO Cities for Peace Prize

The "UNESCO Cities for Peace Prize" awards local initiatives, which contribute to strengthening social cohesion, improve living conditions in sensitive neighbourhoods and develop a true urban conviviability.

UNESCO offers global insight into innovative practices led by candidate cities by including them in an on-line database "The City, Network of Cultures".

Following a decision by the UNESCO Executive Board at it 171st session in April 2005, it has been decided that the UNESCO Cities for Peace Prize will be officially abolished together with 8 other UNESCO Prizes.

See the "Report by the Director-General on the Overall Review of UNESCO Prizes" (doc. 171EX/19)

The UNESCO Secretariat is therefore no longer accepting applications for the Prize.
