Cultural Diversity and civil society: Good practices and perspectives

Saturday 10 October 2015 from 9h to 18h.

Auditorium du Centre Culturel Jean-Cocteau

35, Place Charles de Gaulle - Les Lilas

Even a decade after its adoption, the 2005 Convention, like the principles that are behind, remains imperceptible to most citizens. Why? One of reasons is that cultural diversity since now was mainly defended by diplomats and professionals in culture.

However, those have much to do with the defense of copyright in the digital environment and cultural diversity is too often considered as a mere ethno-cultural practice.

This symposium aims to present citizens' initiatives and best practices in Europe and particularly in France. Without pretending to be exhaustive, it intends to propose some options.

What is the role of civil society? Of the market? What public policies should be promoted? On which criteria should the quality of the policies be assessed? Does cultural diversity only depend on institutions?

This exercise will involve various institutional actors and professionals, as well as influent writers and researchers.
