Partnership is one of the crucial building blocks of the DESD. The success of the Decade depends on all partners contributing – governments, international organizations, civil society, associations, communities, educators, the private sector and citizens. ESD mobilize expertise from different disciplines and fields.

Through partnerships, the ESD community can:

  • refine the concept of ESD as well as build and promote its shared vision;
  • maximize the benefits of existing competence, knowledge, skills and resources to create synergy;
  • demonstrate commitment through unified approaches and coordinated action;
  •  ensure implementation beyond the end of the Decade by reinforcing institutional capacities.

 UNESCO builds broad ownership of the DESD and articulates the added value of each partner:
