On 14 September 2015, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, held an information meeting on recently completed evaluations.

The purpose of the meeting was to present the results of four evaluations undertaken in 2015 by the Internal Oversight Service (IOS) of UNESCO, including the World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Culture and Sustainable Development, and Lessons Learned from UNESCO’s field reform in Africa.

“Evaluation and transparency are together red threads of my reform to perform commitment. Evaluation is essential to shaping an Organization that is fit for purpose.” said the Director-General in her introduction. Irina Bokova noted that all four of the evaluations were opportune and that appropriate actions will be taken to capitalize on the achievements and lessons.

Ms Susanne Frueh, Director of UNESCO’s Internal Oversight Service, presented the main achievements and main challenges identified by each evaluation. She highlighted that all of the evaluations share several key findings such as the relevance of UNESCO’s work at the global as well as at the field and regional level; the need and opportunity to position UNESCO strategically within the post 2015 Development Agenda; and the effect of resource constraints and the need for more investment into reform and key strategic areas of UNESCO’s work.

All of the evaluations are to be presented to the upcoming 197th session of the Executive Board.
