Publication Unit in Brazil

The Publication Unit in Brazil, which is part of the Communication, Public Information and Publications Unit (UCIP), follows a publishing policy aligned to the orientations of UNESCO Publishing. Generally, the Unit publishes in partnership with Brazilian public and private organizations, as well as in partnership with international organizations, with other UN agencies in Brazil, or with UNESCO offices and institutes.

The objective is to turn the UNESCO documents and publications accessible to the main social segments of the country and of other Portuguese-speaking countries.

This policy has been made possible the publication of fundamental texts to serve as reference to the implementation of international commitments approved in UNESCO General Conference Sessions.

There are four basic lines of action for publishing:

  1. Translation of Portuguese versions of the main UNESCO documents that can promote discussions on UNESCO themes among Portuguese-speaking communities;
  2. Elaboration of original publishing projects with relevance to the social and sustainable development of the country, such as publication of studies and surveys done by the Office in Brazil;
  3. Publishing of texts on various UNESCO themes that are considered relevant to public policy implementation;
  4. Partnership with publishing works that represent qualified contributions to the intellectual capital of UNESCO.
