“School Efficiency and Associated Factors in Latin America and the Caribbean” presents some of the main papers delivered at the Congress bearing this name, held 12-14 December 2007 in Santiago, Chile.
This event brought together a renowned group of specialists, researchers, policy-decision makers, and education stakeholders of Latin America, Spain and the Caribbean for the purpose of reviewing and debating the situation of research keyed to the major topics discussed, namely: encouraging research on associated factors as a means of enhancing school efficiency; analysing the results stemming from studies on associated factors implemented by the ministries’ of education quality assessment units; and, fostering the use of available information on factors associated with school improvement to inform the formulation of relevant educational policy and strategies to further teachers’ professional development.
The present publication includes the papers read by UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Education specialists, and representatives of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Spain. These documents contextualise the approach, state and challenges confronted by school efficiency in the region and offer an outline of the most relevant studies conducted in recent years and their contribution to educational policies.
