Berlin, Germany

The city of Berlin was appointed a UNESCO City of Design on 2 November 2005.

As the first German city to be appointed to the Network, Berlin has demonstrated remarkable social, economic and cultural achievements in the field of design, and as a crossroad of diverse backgrounds and histories, Berlin's design tradition and contemporary creation have influenced both national and international movements.

With a good grasp of the economic impact of its design industry, the city of Berlin has made great strides in coordinating policy, training and networking support for its stakeholders.

Events Innovation @ Creative Industries, European Creative Metropoles Conference 2009

This high profile conference brings together 200 creative workers, artists and key stakeholders from public, private and NGO sectors around Europe to reveal the benefits of the booming creative industries and approaches to stimulate their contribution to innovation capacity of regions.

The conference will be opened by programmatic background information on the concept and importance of innovation from philosophical, political and industrial view points. It will be followed by interactive panel sessions on “Urban Spaces for Innovation” and “Innovation Development” in creative sectors. Various approaches will be presented and discussed by partner cities from the European project CREATIVE METROPOLES – amongst them Amsterdam, Birmingham, Helsinki, Vilnius and Berlin.


Events CODE - The Create Berlin poster contest 2009

Subject of the contest:

 "UNESCO CITY OF DESIGN"

 

The title “CODE” stands for “City Of Design” and also for the visual key of Berlin. This competition calls upon all professionals and students – and, in fact, everyone and anyone who would like to present their personal contribution to Berlin’s »CODE« to the public. The »CODE« is the biggest showcase of the creative industries in Berlin.

The creators of the 20 favourite motifs will receive a free feature of their work in the accompanying publication that will be available free of charge in all »UNESCO Cities of Design«. In addition, all 20 creatives will be given an in-depth feature on the CREATE BERLIN website.

The 3 winners will also receive prize money in cash: 3rd Prize: 1000 Euro, 2nd Prize: 1250 Euro, 1st Prize: 1500 Euro. They will also be given the voluntary chance to go about their daily creative practice for 1 month in one of the »UNESCO Cities of Design« Montreal, Buenos Aires and Berlin.


Events DMY International Design Festival, Berlin

„THE SKY IS NOT THE LIMIT" is the title of this year's festival, which is organized by DMY BERLIN.

DMY BERLIN a platform for design professionals with headquarter in Berlin.

This year's festival includes the following modules: 

  • DMY ALLSTARS with 36 satellite exhibitons at de-central exhibition spaces all over Berlin
  • DMY YOUNGSTERS with 97 exhibitors at the central exhibition space in the Arena, in Berlin-Treptow
  • DMY SYMPOSIUM with 15 international participants from USA, Europe and Asia.
  • DMY DESIGNERDINNER with 200 guests (by invitation only) at the Radialsystem V
  • DMY KLUBLABOR with VJs and DJs from around the Globe. (with special Pecha Kucha Night)

Events Made in Berlin at Milan's Salone del Mobile

15 Berlin design offices and labels present their ideas under motto "Made in Berlin" during the renowned trade fair for furniture and interior design "Salone del Mobile" (April 16 – 21, 2008) .

With the largest presentation of Berlin in Milan in the Zona Tortona, the internationally known design district, the product designers, representatives of the UNESCO “City of Design” (title Berlin has acclaimed in 2006) exhibit their works to the international audience of producers, buyers and journalists.
