  • Zurab Tsereteli
    Georgian painter, sculptor, architect and decorator Zurab Tsereteli is also President of the Moscow International Foundation for Support to UNESCO, the Russian Academy of the Arts, the UNESCO International Chair of Fine Arts and the International Centre of Design. His work is consistently future-oriented, focusing on the beginnings of new international relations, new ideas and inventions.

    Zurab Tsereteli was designated Goodwill Ambassador in 1996. Highly active in the promotion of cultural and artistic projects, he organized a sales exhibition of his work on behalf of UNESCO projects and donated a sculpture, which now figures among the major art works exhibited at UNESCO Headquarters. Greatly concerned about the fate of children, he supports the construction of orphanages and recreational facilities.

    Inauguration of Exhibition of Works of Zurab Tsereteli at UNESCO Headquarters in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts
    DG-&-Z.Tsereteli_tn.jpgOn 9 May 2007, the Director-General, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, opened an exhibition of works of Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, at the Organization’s Headquarters. The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of His Excellency Mr Alexandre Alexeevitch Avdeev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to France, His Excellency Mr Vladimir Kalamanov, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the Russian Federation to UNESCO, and Mr Zurab Tsereteli.     Inauguration of the Ichiro Hatoyama sculpture designed by Zurab Tsereteli
    On 28 February 2007, a sculpture designed by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mr Zurab Tsereteli of Ichiro Hatoyama, the Japanese statesman and three times Prime Minister between 1954 and 1956, was inaugurated in Tokyo, Japan. A messagefrom the Director-General was read to the audience during the inauguration ceremony. As Prime Minister, Ichiro Hatoyama signed the peace treaty with the Soviet Union in 1956. More
