The Women of Color Arts & Film Fest, Atlanta 2009 - Call for submissions

The annual Women of Color Arts & Film Festival (WOCAF), Atlanta, GA, scheduled for 20-22 March 2009, has lauched its call for submissions for its fifth edition.

The Women of Color Arts & Film Fest, Atlanta 2009 - Call for submissions

The WOCAF Festival, Atlanta, celebrates exhibits and distributes the artistic creations of visual and performance artists. The film festival features films and videos from across the globe by and about women of African, African-American, Asian, Middle -Eastern, Afro-European, Australian-Aborigine, Caribbean, Latina and Native American descent.

Screeners are accepted preferably on VHS (NTSC formats only) and DVD. The final screening formats are either VHS (NTSC formats only) or DVD.

Deadline for submissions: Friday 23 January 2009

  • Articles of the 1980 Recommendation in relation to this theme :
    - IV. 1.
    (...) Member States should:
    (i) give particular attention to the development of women's creativity and the encouragement of groups and organizations which seek to promote the role of women in the various branches of artistic activity.
    - VI. 1. (...) Member States are invited to:
    (c) promote artistic activities within the context of development and stimulate public and private demand for the fruits of artistic activity in order to increase opportunities of paid work for artists, inter alia by means of subsidies to art institutions, commissions to individual artists, or the organization of artistic events at the local, regional or national levels, and by establishing art funds.

  • Points of the 1997 Declaration related to this subject:
    - Paragraph 18: (...) New means of private funding, from major foundations to small companies, must be encouraged as supplementary sources of funds, particularly with a view to supporting the creation, the expression and the dissemination of contemporary works.
    - Paragraph 19: Public and private funding sources are invited to respond favourably to requests made by artists in developing countries or countries in transition. UNESCO’s intervention is particularly necessary in order to identify and publicize existing opportunities for private funding of the arts worldwide.
