World Observatory on the Social Status of the Artist

International Festival of Visual Arts and New Media (FAN), Casablanca (Morocco)

The Centre for Visual, Electronic Arts and Multimedia (IRISSON) organizes from 30 March to 4 April 2009 in Casablanca (Morocco) the 2nd edition of the International Festival of Visual Arts and New Media (FAN).

The 2009 edition of the Festival is to receive a national and international programming of well-known artists, in the fields of performing arts, video, electronic music, dance, sound creation and new media. Many spaces in Casablanca and other Moroccan cities will host performances, shows, video and multimedia interactive installations, as well as video screenings.

Several events for young artists, as well as research professors and experts, are organized in the framework of the Festival, namely:

  • workshops for young artists
  • 2 video competitions for young artists:
    - "International competition of Art and Film schools"
    - "Pocket videos"
  • International conference on "Digital Arts and Culture: towards new identities ?" 

Professional artists and young creators in the field of visual arts and new media who wish to apply to 2009 FAN are invited to send a copy of their works under DVD format, together with a CV and a technical form (title, year of production, running time, synopsis, technical crew…) to the following address, before 15 January 2009:

    - Parag. 14:
    The new technologies help to promote artistic exchanges. These technologies constitute a vast field of investigation for artists in terms of their creative and training potential.(...)
    - Parag. 18: (...) New means of private funding, from major foundations to small companies, must be encouraged as supplementary sources of funds, particularly with a view to supporting the creation, the expression and the dissemination of contemporary works.
    - Parag. 19: Public and private funding sources are invited to respond favourably to requests made by artists in developing countries or countries in transition. UNESCO’s intervention is particularly necessary in order to identify and publicize existing opportunities for private funding of the arts worldwide.
