As part of its ongoing support to the development of media in Myanmar, UNESCO has partnered with the United Nations Development Programme to strengthen national and local media’s capacities in conflict-sensitive reporting and professional standards through a project financed by the UN Peacebuilding Fund.

The project, entitled “Capacity Development of Mass Media Institutions in Support of Peace-building and Local Development in Mon and Kayin States,” builds journalists’ skills in conflict-sensitive reporting through hands-on and experiential workshops, mentoring and coaching. Community media centres and community radios will also be established in selected communities in Mon and Kayin States, serving as platforms for more inclusive, participatory and bottom-up peace-building process.
