Regional UNESCO/ICOM Thematic Museum Training for museum specialists from CIS countries and expert meeting “Museum Service as a Basis for Quality Services to Visitors and the Factor of strengthening of a Social Role of a Museum”

The Regional UNESCO/ICOM Thematic Museum Training for museum specialists from CIS countries and expert meeting “Museum Service as a Basis for Quality Services to Visitors and the Factor of strengthening of a Social Role of a Museum” will be organized within the framework of the UNESCO/IFESCCO Pilot Project “Running a Museum – XXI Century: Thematic Regional Capacity-building UNESCO/ICOM Trainings and Expert Meetings for CIS countries”. 25-30 museum specialists from the CIS countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan will participate in the training.

The project activities will include organization and conduction of the 3-day Regional Thematic Museum Training for museum specialists from CIS countries and expert meeting on “Museum Service as a Basis for Quality Services to Visitors and the Factor of strengthening of a Social Role of a Museum” in particular, focusing on the support of historic-ethnographic local museums, with participation of 25-30 museum specialists from the CIS countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

The following main results are expected at the end of the training:
• social, economic and educational roles of museums as vectors for sustainable development and dialogue strengthened in the CIS countries;
• capacity of museum professionals in the CIS countries in museum management and collection conservation increased;
• museum networks in CIS countries reinforced and museum-to-museum partnerships strengthened;
• the role of museums as places for access to knowledge strengthened;
• educational role of museums strengthened to attract new public through support of educational and informational centres in museums;
• museums as actors of sustainable tourism for economic development promoted in the CIS countries.
• museum networks in CIS involved into the Global Partnership for Museums for sustainable development.
