Regional Conference for the Use of the General History of Africa in Higher Education Institutions throughout the continent

Organized within the framework of the project on the Pedagogical Use of the General History of Africa, the conference aims primarily to promote the use of the collection in higher education institutions to renovate history education at the university level and improve the quality of teacher training in this field. Another objective of this meeting is to bring together leaders and actors in African higher education so that they might exchange views on their respective experience in teaching the General History of Africa and on the dissemination of the collection.

This regional conference will be preceded by a workshop on the revision of concepts, and paradigms used in the social and human sciences and applied to Africa. Participants will endeavour to elaborate a framework for addressing problematic concepts and defining new “de-colonial” concepts and categories and to examine the contribution of African languages, toponyms, ethnonyms and anthroponyms with a view to gaining enhanced understanding of Africa’s past. The guidelines for a glossary of terms related to the teaching of social and human sciences in Africa will also be drawn up.
