In New York, Director-General Meets the President of Kosovo* in the Context of the UN General Assembly

On 1 October 2015, on the margins of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Director-General met with the President of Kosovo*, H.E. Mrs Atifete Jahjaga.

Irina Bokova highlighted UNESCO's longstanding engagement for the protection and conservation of the Medieval Monuments in Kosovo, built in the 13th and 14th centuries and inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2004, and thereafter on the World Heritage List in Danger in 2006.

The Director-General noted the Organization's restoration work,‎ underscoring the Organization's close monitoring of their state of conservation in conformity with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, adopted in 1999 and in close cooperation with all stakeholders concerned, in particular the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

President Jahjaga and the Director-General ‎ discussed the importance of strengthening further the protection of the World Heritage in Kosovo, including the responsibility of Pristina in that regard.
