Teacher Policy Development Guide launched during 38th UNESCO General Conference

A guide to develop and review national teacher policies was launched as part of the 38th UNESCO General Conference on 4 November.

The event to launch the Teacher Policy Development Guide was organized by the Permanent Delegation of Mexico to UNESCO and the International Teacher Task Force (TTF) together with other  Permanent Delegations of countries represented in the TTF Steering Committee (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Germany, Indonesia, Namibia,Nigeria, Norway and Oman.

The guide was produced by the TTF with the aim of putting at the disposal of Member States and partners a tool that will facilitate the development and the review of national teacher policies.  

The important role of teachers and teaching for effective learning at all levels of education was acknowledged Framework for Action of the Education 2030 Agenda and in the Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainable Development Goal 4 includes a target to: “ensure that teachers and educators are empowered, adequately recruited, well-trained, professionally qualified, motivated and supported within well-resourced, efficient and effectively governed systems”.

In order to provide such a teaching force on a sustainable basis within educational systems, it is essential to develop evidence-based teacher policies developed with the participation of all relevant stakeholders. 

The Teacher Policy Development Guide (paper format) is available in 7 languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish) and is designed to be an interactive tool adaptable to country contexts and user needs.It can be download in English .
