The 2014 UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) marked the end of the UN Decade of ESD (2005-2014) and saw the launch of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD. The conference took place from 10-12 November 2014 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Under the banner of “Learning Today for a Sustainable Future”, the Conference celebrated the achievements of the Decade, identified lessons learnt while setting the stage for the future of ESD.

It also showcased initiatives, key players, networks and ideas that the Decade stimulated. Such examples from all over the world helped to generate future action under the Global Action Programme.

The outcomes of the World Conference will inform the deliberations of the World Education Forum to be held from 19 to 22 May 2015 in Incheon, Republic of Korea.

Participation in the 2014 ESD World Conference was by invitation only. Some 1000 participants from all around the world attended. UNESCO invited Member States to nominate participants.
