7th Africities Summit - Panel on Global Collaboration for Diversity, Inclusion and Non-Discrimination

© UNESCO
International Coalition of Cities against Racism

Organized as part of the 7th Africities Summit, the panel will explore strategies to strengthen international collaboration between city-level actors in the promotion of inclusion, diversity and anti-discrimination.

In today’s interconnected and mobile world, cities are key to the global challenges of tackling discrimination, promoting diversity and inclusion and respect for human rights.

Through the exchange of competences and expertise and by collaborating on shared initiatives through global platforms such as the International Coalition of Cities against Racism (ICCAR), cities can harness the potential of international cooperation to support action that is effective in combating discrimination and promoting inclusive societies at the local level.

Mayors from member cities of the African Coalition of Cities against Racism and Discrimination, which was launched at the 4th Africities Summit in Nairobi, Kenya in 2006, will participate alongside representatives from other ICCAR Regional Coalitions, in addition to private sector and media actors. They will explore future collaborative action in line with emerging agendas including the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, as well as the Habitat III’s New Urban Agenda to be adopted in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016.

The Summit’s Political Dialogue session will also feature the participation of Ms Nada Al-Nashif, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences.
