International Conference in Oman to assess progress towards Education For All goals and identify new challenges
How close is the world to achieving Education For All? How much progress has been made since the six EFA goals were established at the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal, 2000? And what are the new education challenges that must be identified and included in the world’s post-2015 development agenda?
These will be the key questions under discussion at the Global EFA Meeting (GEM), to be held in Muscat, Oman, from 12 to 14 May.
Over 300 participants will attend the meeting including 24 government ministers and vice-ministers, as well as representatives from intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, academics, researchers and other stakeholders.
They will critically review progress towards the six EFA goals based on the 2013/2014 EFA Global Monitoring Report (GMR), regional reports and other documents, including initial findings from the National EFA 2015 Reviews; identify bottlenecks holding back progress as well as ongoing initiatives, notably acceleration and ‘big push’ actions, in order to overcome them; and discuss remaining steps in the EFA process up to 2015, in particular with regard to the finalization of the National EFA 2015 Reviews and the debate of their outcomes at national and regional levels in preparation for the World Education Forum 2015, to be held in the Republic of Korea next May.
The participants will also discuss the post-2015 education agenda and the outline and elements of the Framework for Action to be adopted at the 2015 Forum; as well as the position, shape and scope of the education agenda in the post-2015 global development agenda.
