Missions

The Division of Public Information (DPI) brings together the different information and communication departments of the Organization. Its activities aim at making UNESCO’s ideals, projects and achievements known to different audiences. It thus contributes to spreading the knowledge generated by UNESCO’s programmes, raising its profile and encouraging partnerships with public and private groups.

The DPI is particularly responsible for relations with the media (print and audiovisual), the Organization’s publications programme, the development and coordination of the website (www.unesco.org), the online edition of the periodical ‘The UNESCO Courier’, the organization of cultural events (exhibitions, performances), the application of standards concerning the use of UNESCO’s name and logo, as well as internal communication. The DPI is also the focal point for the different Prizes awarded by the Organization to personalities and entities that have carried out praiseworthy acts in their fields of activity.
