The Fly Your Ideas (FYI) competition is one of Airbus’ key initiatives in encouraging youth to pursue careers in the engineering sector. In partnership with UNESCO, this competition has generated interest in the engineering sciences and has increased the visibility of the UNESCO Engineering Initiative. As with other sectors, Airbus maintains there will not be enough aviation engineers to meet future industry demands. In this competition, participating youth from around the world are challenged to find sustainable ways of supporting a growing global aviation industry. Through the advice of aviation experts, participants are given the opportunity to experience first-hand how engineers are working towards developing an economically-, environmentally- and socially-responsible industry.

With more than 686 member companies across the world, EPCA is dedicated to advancing the petrochemical industry in an environmentally sustainable way. Recently, in 2013, EPCA in partnership with the UNESCO Engineering Initiative produced a short piece highlighting how studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) can lead to a fascinating and rewarding career in the chemical industry. This film encourages youth to study STEM subjects giving them the opportunity to work on innovative solutions to evolving global challenges.

The first Memorandum of Understanding between the UNESCO and INTEL, signed in 2004, detailed the promotion and use of information and communication technology in schools. Since then, INTEL and UNESCO have expanded their partnership to include the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. In support of the UNESCO Engineering Initiative, INTEL prioritizes Africa and gender equality, and supports the development of engineering education. In 2012, INTEL and UNESCO collaborated on the INTEL Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)-Arab World, held in Dubai, and they are now working together on another fair to be held in 2013 in South Africa.

Through its members, in more than 80 countries, the IGU focuses on the improvement of the natural gas industry. It encourages and promotes an economically-sound, environmental-safe and socially-responsible industry. One of IGU’s main objectives is the development of technology and the use of renewable energy applications for a prosperous international gas industry. In partnership with the UNESCO Engineering Initiative, the IGU will organize a round table discussion, in December 2013, on the challenges facing women engineers in Africa and the Arab States.
