THE organisers of the recent international conference on Geoparks in Torbay have been praised by the network's international board.

Some 800 delegates from all over the world came to Torquay last week for the seventh International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks. The event was held at the Riviera International Conference Centre.

Prof Steward, who is Director of the Sustainable Earth Institute, Plymouth University, said: "AS patron of the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark, I am delighted that the 7th International Conference will be taking place here in Devon, in an area of such outstanding beauty as well as geological significance.

TORQUAY'S Cary Arms in Babbacombe Bay has been chosen to host a group of international VIP guests who will be visiting Torbay in September.

The English Riviera was granted the status of Global Geopark in 2007, resulting in international recognition for its rich geological, historical and cultural heritage.

Now the Bay is hosting the seventh international conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks in September.
