The above workshop was organised in collaboration with the NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women (NIEW) with the support of the Islamic Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organization (ISESCO). The workshop was designed to train participants on the elements of technology-based entrepreneurship. 32 delegates from 15 countries comprising scientists and researchers from research centres and universities participated. 15 were from Malaysia. Other countries represented were Algeria, Cambodia, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Swaziland Tunisia and Tanzania.

Chair of ISTIC Governing Board, Dato Ir. (Dr.) Lee Yee Cheong attended the triennial InterAcademy Panel (IAP) General Assembly on 2 March 2016 in Hermanus, South Africa and presented his report on the IAP Science Education Program (SEP). Dato Lee is the Chair of IAP SEP Global Council. He highlighted IAP SEP's 2016 initiatives together with ISTIC:
- One Day Event in UNESCO Paris on IBSE 5 April 2016.
- Four IBSE Workshops in ECO countries namely Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
- Students as Agents of Change against Spread of Mosquitoes in Latin America.
- Three Programs in China under the "One Belt One Road" Initiatives.
- Activate the Education and Capacity Building provisions of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).
