The Education Sector has now made available a repository of good practices in South-South and Triangular Cooperation

The UNESCO Education Sector has long leveraged South-South and Triangular Cooperation, both as a means for achieving the Organization’s global education objectives in relation to Education for All (EFA), and as a key mechanism for the delivery of the Sector’s technical support at regional and country levels.

As the Sector steps up its efforts to assist Member States in completing the unfinished business of Education for All, and in elaborating the post 2015 international education agenda, it has re-emphasized the long-term importance of knowledge sharing, peer-to-peer networking, communities of practice and the transfer of resources and expertise among countries in the South sharing similar concerns and perspectives.

To take stock of and facilitate such initiatives, a repository of good practices within specific education thematic areas, as well as an overview of key sector support mechanisms at global and regional levels, have been posted to the Education Sector’s website.

Visitors are guided to relevant online databases, information portals and knowledge sharing platforms, classified by thematic area, where they can search for, and access, examples of good practice in South-South and Triangular Cooperation. Within the Sector’s key support mechanisms, visitors are further guided to online conference web sites, coordination frameworks, networks and information on education focus areas where they can learn more about UNESCO’s work at global and regional levels.

The lessons learned from UNESCO’s global and regional support mechanisms are enriching discussions with the Organization’s development partners around the post-2015 education agenda, and helping to identify which regional and cross-regional networks and alliances, NGOs and private sector partners in the South have become key change agents and could become UNESCO’s partners in the emerging post-2015 development architecture.
