Regional Level

UNESCO Bangkok/W.Field

The Education Sector works very closely with the UNESCO Offices in Bangkok, Dakar, Beirut and Santiago, as well as the regional UN Development Group teams, to foster horizontal cooperation and South-South networking, especially through high level policy dialogue, regional education coordination frameworks on specific focus areas and knowledge generation and exchange platforms.

These Offices lead, in their own right, a number of South-South education coordination frameworks which help to ensure that countries can exchange technical expertise and know-how and disseminate information on good practices and the advances they have made. Regional and sub-regional meetings further open up opportunities for countries addressing similar concerns and challenges to articulate their needs and match these needs with peer assistance.

The UNESCO Office in Bangkok has integrated South-South and Triangular Cooperation into its Medium-Term Strategy, while four offices in Dakar, Bangkok, Beirut and Santiago  received funding for four regional thematic programmes in 2011 from UNESCO South-South Cooperation Fund in Education, initiated with the financial support of G77 and China  Member States.

The Sector has also entered into strategic partnerships with a number of regional entities in the South, such as the East African Community (EAC), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS),  the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
